About Diamonds

Quality Of Diamond is Depends Upon 4C

Cut

The CUT is probably the most important ā€˜Cā€™ of all as it will be picked up by the untrained human eye straight away in the worse of cases and can be picked up as well when diamonds are compared to one another. If a diamond is poorly cut it will sparkle less to begin with and may not show its full actual visual size to weight ratio either. This is often the case with diamonds marketed in India under terms as ā€˜IDEALā€™ or ā€˜Heartsā€™, which are well cut diamonds, but cut to a set of proportions that allow the visual size to be impaired when compared to a diamond cut to another set of proportions. There are other specifications to do with the quality of cut, which is the ā€˜finishā€™, and the ā€˜symmetryā€™ of the diamond. The finish is basically the quality of polish of the facets and the ā€˜symmetryā€™ is the way they have been cut on the diamond, some facets can overlap others, which will impair the symmetry, therefore.

COLOUR

Next in importance is the COLOUR of the diamond. Colours range from ā€˜Dā€™ the whitest to ā€˜Zā€™ the most yellow along the colour spectrum range. The first 5 colours are within the ā€˜whiteā€™ range, the next three within the ā€˜light tintedā€™ range and from the ā€˜Lā€™ down we have the ā€˜tinted rangesā€™. It is a matter of personal preference, linked to oneā€™s budget that will determine the choice of colour of your diamond, however, if you plan to have the diamond set in white metal it will not be wise to go below the ā€˜Kā€™ colour, ā€˜Hā€™ being the borderline for the eye not to perceive any ā€˜tintā€™ in the diamond.

CLARITY

The clarity range goes from ā€˜IFā€™, internally flawless, through VVS1, VVS2, VS1, VS2, SI1, SI2, I1, and I2 to I3. The ā€˜Vā€™ stands for ā€˜veryā€™ the ā€˜Sā€™ for ā€˜slightā€™ and the ā€˜Iā€™ for ā€˜inclusionā€™. Diamonds below the SI2 will not be eye clean so the imperfection or flaw(s) can be seen with the naked eye, once within the I2 to I3 imperfection the refractive qualities of the diamond will be impaired as well. Imperfections can be coloured as well as kept to white and can be situated on the side or in the center of the diamond. This will influence the value of the diamond as well.

CARAT

The last ā€˜Cā€™ is the CARAT weight of the diamond always expressed in two decimal points after the carat, i.e.: 1.02ct or 0.25ct. The larger the diamond the more expensive it becomes so this parameter as well must be adapted to the budget and preferences on hand.

Lastly there is a 5th ā€˜Cā€™ which is not often mentioned, that of CONFIDENCE in your supplier as only they will be able to advise you correctly and we, at the Jewellery Web Shop, with our vast experience and our expert gemmologist will advise you accordingly.
